Zur Quantifizierung von organischen (z. B. Acetat, Formiat) und anorganischen Anionen (z. B. Chlorid, Sulfat) in wässrigen Proben wird die Ionenaustauschchromatographie eingesetzt.

Die Quantifizierung des gelösten organischen Kohlenstoffs (DOC) in wässrigen Proben und die chromatographische Auftrennung des DOC in verschiedene Fraktionen und die Quantifizierung dieser Fraktionen in wässrigen Proben erfolgt mittels Flüssigchromatographie - Nachweis von organischem Kohlenstoff (LC-OCD).
