The Specialised Information Service for Geosciences (FID GEO - Fachinformationsdienst Geowissenschaften) is an information service of the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam (GFZ) and the Goettingen State and University Library. Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), FID GEO aims to promote a cultural change towards open science through its publication, digitization and consultancy services for German geoscience community.

FID GEO aims to improve access to digital knowledge resources for the geosciences and wants to contribute to an open information infrastructure in Germany. Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the „Specialised Information Services“ programme, FID GEO complements existing university and research institutions by providing nationwide services.

In the spirit of Open Science, FID GEO takes a holistic view of the entire chain of scientific results in the geosciences - from samples to research data and software to scientific articles. Our aim is to digitally link these elements in the best possible way, thereby promoting the visibility, reusability and transparency of geoscientific research. We have always seen text and data as two complementary components of the FID GEO service.
